Accountant - 6 Month

Ready to take the next step in your accounting career within a newly created Corporate & Support Services Directorate? This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking Finance team within a leading public sector Council, supporting effective financial management, compliance and decision-making across the organisation.

MCS Group are proud to be partnering with a leading public sector Council in their search for an Accountant. There are two roles available, one 6 month contract & one 14 month contract. These roles would suit an experienced finance professional looking to broaden their accounting experience, with the opportunity to work across a range of key finance functions and contribute to the continued development of the Council's financial services.

The Role:

* Support Accounting Managers with financial management, reporting, compliance and team development.

* Maintain accurate financial records and contribute to financial statements and management accounts.

* Analyse financial data to support decision-making across the Council.

* Support budgeting, forecasting, treasury management and financial risk management.

* Contribute to financial policies and procedures and provide guidance to key stakeholders.

* Take responsibility for an area such as Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Capital Accounting or Treasury Accounting, depending on your experience.

* Work collaboratively across the Finance team, with opportunities to gain experience across different accounting functions.

The Person

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential:

* Relevant accounting qualification (CCAB or equivalent).

* Experience of financial management, accounting and financial reporting.

* Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial information and support decision-making.

* Experience or understanding of budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting or financial compliance.

* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear financial guidance to colleagues and stakeholders.

* Ability to work effectively as part of a wider Finance team while managing your own workload.

* Commitment to maintaining high standards of financial governance, compliance and accuracy.
