Band 7 Cross-sectional (CT & MRI) CDC Radiographer - Wood Green CDC

We are looking for committed and motivated radiographers who are skilled in MRI and/or CT and who can contribute to the delivery of safe, high-quality imaging services within a busy community setting.

As a Band 7 Radiographer, you will be expected to rotate across both modalities, provide senior clinical support within the department, manage the work area when required and offer professional advice and supervision to radiographers, students and radiographic assistants. The role includes responsibility for maintaining safe clinical standards, supporting patient flow, reviewing image quality and contributing to the daily running of CT and MRI services.

The post holder will also contribute to the development of radiology services across the Trust, supporting audit, quality assurance, training and service improvement. There will be opportunities to take on line management responsibilities, including rostering, appraisal, staff development, performance management and sickness absence management.

Delivering high-quality MRI and CT examinations, ensuring appropriate patient preparation, positioning, image quality and adherence to departmental protocols.

Assessing imaging referrals, acting as an IR(ME)R Operator and working within delegated Practitioner responsibilities where applicable.

Administering IV contrast, including cannulation, use of pressure injectors and assessment of patient suitability for contrast examinations.

Maintain ILS competency and provide an immediate response to clinical emergencies, including recognising deterioration and initiating appropriate emergency care.

Providing senior clinical support and leadership within the department, including supervising junior radiographers, students and radiographic assistants.

Reviewing image quality, identifying urgent or unexpected findings and ensuring appropriate escalation before the patient leaves the department.

Supporting audit, equipment quality assurance, protocol review, staff training and service development across CT and MRI.

Supporting the day-to-day running of the service, including workforce allocation, maintaining patient flow and working within the six-day shift rota.

Contributing to appraisals, staff development, recruitment and line management activities where required.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

To assess the clinical justification of Radiography referrals in line with both national regulations (IRMER 2017) and local protocols.

To act as an ‘Operator’ under IRMER (2017).

To act with delegated authority as ‘Practitioner’ under IRMER (2017) for plain film radiography referrals.

To liaise with referral sources where clarification is required regarding selection of the most clinically appropriate imaging examination.

To act as a point of advice for imaging referrers.

To communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their escorts prior to, during, and after an examination, especially in difficult or emotional circumstances, using both verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

To ensure patients receive a high standard of care across all modalities

To acquire diagnostic images, and physically position the full range of patient presentations, accurately for examinations, taking into account patient limitations and adapting standard techniques where necessary.

To match clinical indications presented by the referrer to an appropriate departmental protocol in x-ray, CT and MRI Scanning.

To operate advanced software on specialist radiological equipment, requiring excellent hand-eye co-ordination, e.g. bolus chasing, image reformatting and dynamic imaging.

To review images and ensure that supplementary imaging procedures are considered prior to patient departure from the department.

To be able to offer good clinical judgement when assessing and interpreting images produced by themselves or more junior staff

To ensure that images are presented for reporting purposes in a timely and accurate manner.

To ensure that urgent findings are communicated and patients directed accordingly.

To highlight radiographic abnormalities using the appropriate system of work in place, e.g. the Red Dot system.

To review and comment on continuing appropriateness of imaging protocols.

To work unsupervised within the service arrangements.

To work within the departments shift system.

To participate in patient monitoring or administration of oxygen, under supervision.

To ascertain from the patient, patient’s guardian or the referrer, the patient’s suitability for receipt of intravenous (IV) contrast media.

To perform intravenous cannulation and manual injection of contrast agent.

To administer IV contrast media using a pressure injector.

If required, to gain competency in recognising anaphylaxis and administering Adrenaline and operate within Trust and Departmental policy.

To undertake other duties as and when required by the demands of the service or the CT/MRI Lead or the Operational Service Manager.
