About The Opportunity Our client is a fast-growing, AI-driven business operating at a significant pace and scale. As the business continues to grow, they are looking for an experienced UK Bookkeeper to take ownership of day-to-day financial operations and ensure the finance function remains accurate, organised and dependable.

This is a dedicated contractor engagement, requiring full-time availability and a proactive, hands-on approach. The successful candidate will become a key part of the operational backbone of the business, helping maintain financial accuracy while supporting a rapidly evolving organisation.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in high-growth environments, thrives on ownership and accountability, and can confidently manage a busy workload without requiring close supervision.

The Role You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing reconciliations, supporting month-end processes and ensuring compliance with UK financial regulations and reporting requirements.

The business moves quickly, and priorities can shift rapidly. We're looking for someone who can adapt, remain detail-focused under pressure and consistently deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate bookkeeping records across multiple accounts and entities
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations
  • Manage accounts payable and expense processing
  • Support accounts receivable activities and payment tracking
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting schedules
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements and UK accounting standards
  • Support Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies and financial queries
  • Maintain audit-ready financial records and documentation
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Liaise with external accountants and finance stakeholders as required
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and operational efficiency
Requirements Experience
  • Minimum 5 years' bookkeeping experience supporting UK-based businesses
  • Strong working knowledge of UK accounting and bookkeeping principles
  • Demonstrable experience managing VAT returns and VAT compliance
  • Experience working within HMRC regulations and requirements
  • Strong understanding of Making Tax Digital (MTD)
  • Proven experience preparing management accounts
  • Experience supporting high-growth or rapidly scaling businesses
  • Comfortable working in dynamic environments where priorities can change quickly
Systems & Technical Skills
  • Strong double-entry bookkeeping knowledge
  • Advanced reconciliation experience
  • Excellent attention to detail and financial accuracy
  • Strong Excel and spreadsheet skills
  • Ability to identify issues, investigate discrepancies and implement solutions
  • Experience working with modern finance technology stacks
Software Experience Highly desirable:
  • NetSuite

Benefits Availability This is a contractor engagement requiring:
  • Availability during UK business hours
