Using creative and therapeutic approaches, our counsellors create a safe space to help children build resilience, understand their emotions, and take positive steps forward.

We are recruiting for Sessional Counsellors in the following areas (please state in your supporting statement, which area(s) you can travel within):

  • Edenbridge (within a 10 mile radius of TN8 5AB)
  • West Kingsdown (within a 10 mile radius of TN15 6JP)
  • Ramsgate (within a 10 mile radius of CT10 2PW)
  • Horsham (RH12 1SR)
  • Weald (within a 15 mile radius of TN17 1DZ)
  • Dallington (within a 15 mile radius of TN21 9NH)
  • Maidstone
  • Gillingham
  • Eastbourne.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Provide one-to-one counselling for children and young people, offering safe, supportive and professional sessions.
  • Act on safeguarding concerns appropriately and liaise with safeguarding leads, parents, and professionals where required.
  • Work independently while keeping accurate records, managing referrals, evaluations, and consent forms.
  • Collaborate with schools, social care teams, and health providers to support the wellbeing of children and families.
  • Maintain professional standards through supervision, training, and CPD, staying up to date with legislation and best practice.
  • Represent Spurgeons positively, reflecting our ethos and commitment to transforming the lives of children and young people.

ABOUT YOU

  • Qualified to Level 5 Diploma (minimum Level 4) in Counselling Children and Young People.
  • Registered member of a recognised professional counselling body (e.g. BACP, UKCP, NCPS, PTUK).
  • At least 100 counselling hours with children and 100 hours with adults, ideally including school-based experience.
  • Confident working independently with strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
  • Excellent understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and the challenges faced by children and young people.
  • You’re someone who wants to grow, you’re keen to learn, open to feedback, and looking for a role where you can develop your skills and make a long-term impact.
