Clinical Director – Children and Young Persons

Job Description:

  • Provide strategic clinical leadership and oversight across Children and Young Persons services
  • Ensure services meet clinical governance, quality, safeguarding, safety and regulatory requirements
  • Chair and contribute to clinical quality and safety meetings
  • Drive performance improvement, learning and continuous improvement
  • Provide leadership and support to Clinical Leads
  • Oversee clinical performance, concerns, resources and development
  • Develop effective, responsive and sustainable CYP pathways and workforce models
  • Lead service development and transformation
  • Improve patient experience, clinical outcomes, capacity and service efficiency
  • Maintain focus on safeguarding and the needs of children, young people and families
  • Support recruitment, induction, development and retention of doctors and wider clinical professionals
  • Promote multidisciplinary working, evidence-based practice, innovation and clinical excellence
  • Work with senior leaders and external stakeholders on clinical strategy, policies, standards and service growth
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director and wider clinical and operational leadership teams

Requirements:

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
  • Postgraduate qualification (MRCPsych or equivalent)
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
  • Significant senior clinical and strategic leadership experience, including CYP service delivery, within mental health or a similarly complex healthcare environment
  • Significant clinical experience working with children and young people within mental health services
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding, clinical risk management, clinical governance and quality improvement
  • In-depth understanding of NHS operations, healthcare regulation and the wider healthcare environment
  • Proven experience leading service development, transformation, change and service improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrable experience managing and developing clinical teams
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management and clinical performance management skills
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills
  • Applicants must reside in the UK
  • Ability to undertake occasional travel across the UK
  • Desirable: management qualification or equivalent leadership experience
  • Desirable: experience delivering digital or remote mental health services
  • Desirable: experience of medical education, clinical supervision and/or workforce development
  • Desirable: research experience related to children and young people's mental health
  • Desirable: scientific publications and conference or seminar presentations
  • Desirable: experience across NHS and/or independent healthcare settings
  • Desirable: experience developing or implementing innovative clinical pathways for children and young people
