Consultant Psychiatrist – Addictions, Bedford Job overview

Support the multidisciplinary team in the management of patients with a dual diagnosis, working with pharmacy, psychology, social work, CPN colleagues and trainees.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide consultant leadership and support continued development of the Addictions services with an opportunity to be a visiting FDAC psychiatrist.
  • Provide regular clinical input through specialist clinics that offer assessment and evidence‑based interventions for dual diagnosis patients.
  • Serve as senior specialist clinician and support wider MDT work.
  • Carry out clinical assessments, including psychiatric and physical investigations.
  • Participate in the implementation and development of clinical governance procedures.
  • Provide clinical advice and guidance to primary care physicians.
  • Work with the Team manager to meet KPI targets.
  • Develop the service to achieve HTAS accreditation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from other specialist teams for joint patient care.
  • Provide supervision and training for junior medical staff.
  • Take part in mandatory Trust audit programmes and develop local audit cycles.
  • Actively participate in Trust’s clinical and strategic development.
Person specification Qualifications
  • Fully registered with GMC.
Experience
  • Experience of clinical work in Adult Psychiatry at SpR, SASG or Consultant level within the last 3 years.
Organisation skills / abilities
  • Ability to manage complex workloads and support others to do that.
Clinical skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and provide leadership for the team.
