Documentation & Technical Writing Manager

This is a remote position. We are looking for candidates in the UK.

The Opportunity:

Documentation is among the most critical and consumed content by users of Grafana. As a Documentation and Technical Writing Manager at Grafana Labs, you will be guiding the direction and enhancement of our documentation. In this role, you\'ll manage a team of Technical Writers who develop documentation for developer audiences and interact with engineering and other internal and external groups to define team deliverables, priorities, and processes. You\'ll also contribute to the writing and editing of the documentation and create process improvements.

We are looking for a Documentation and Technical Writing Manager who understands the documentation and technical writing needs of a fast-growing company with both open source and commercial products. In addition to helping manage a technical writing team to keep up with our fast pace of development, you will also have an ownership role in improving our documentation site and working across the organization to identify documentation needs, requests, and prioritization. You will help drive collaboration across teams, responding to requests for a variety of tailored content that ensures our products are easy to learn and rapidly adopted.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Understand the gaps in our current documentation and how to organize and build documentation for scale
  • Help establish best practices within the technical writing team to keep up with our needs for documentation across projects and products
  • Manage a team of technical writers
  • Work with the technical writing management team and other stakeholders to support a collaborative, intentional content strategy across content types, including blogs and video
  • Collaboratively develop opinionated content that helps users become successful with our products using our technical documentation
  • Support a transparent project management process to help internal stakeholders track significant updates to our documentation
  • Promote an approach that focuses on results and supports work-life balance by helping to balance assignments across the team when workloads are uneven, manage conflicting priorities, and prevent over-resourcing

What Makes You a Great Fit:

  • Experience leading and writing excellent developer documentation in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Experience interacting with engineering and other internal and external groups to define deliverables, priorities, and processes
  • Player/coach mentality to engage with an international team
  • Ability to quickly understand the organization’s needs and develop a plan in response, helping technical writers prioritize high-priority feature release work with other documentation, usability, and process improvements
  • Experience managing remotely across global time zones
  • Experience as a technical writer working on developer documentation
  • Experience working with the open source community
  • Experience building relationships and advocating for the technical writing discipline with internal stakeholders
  • First-class written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience working with docs-as-code, Markdown, Git, GitHub, and project management tools
