GBS RTR Operating Model (Consultant)

About Finance Reinvention Partner

Accenture’s Finance Reinvention Partner helps CFOs and finance leaders reinvent how finance creates and protects enterprise value—bringing together strategy, operating model, data, AI and technology to improve performance, insight, control and execution. In the UK and Ireland, the practice combines finance strategy and transformation capabilities with the enterprise platforms that enable them, including SAP, Oracle, Workday and enterprise performance management solutions.

Our GBS and Operating Model team helps clients design and implement how finance and other enterprise services should be organised and delivered across retained functions, Global Business Services, Global Capability Centres, Centres of Excellence and external service providers. We support the full transformation journey—from strategy, value case and target operating model through detailed design, mobilisation, implementation, service management and continuous improvement—embedding data, automation and AI to create scalable, resilient and value-led operations.

Why this role

This role supports the redesign of how Record-to-Report (R2R) and controllership services are organised and governed across group and local finance, GBS/GCC, Centres of Excellence, outsourcing partners and technology. You will help clients improve close performance, accounting quality, controls and service delivery while preserving clear statutory and fiduciary accountability.

At its core, this is an operating-model and process-transformation role. The Consultant brings sufficient R2R depth to analyse current-state issues, develop credible design options and translate approved decisions into detailed process, control, service and technology requirements.

The expertise you'll bring

Relevant R2R and operating-model transformation experience. 4+ years in R2R, controllership, finance transformation, GBS/GCC, ERP-enabled change or consulting, with hands-on ownership of defined analysis or design deliverables and exposure to at least one R2R improvement or transformation through design and into implementation, readiness or service transition.

R2R and controllership depth. Practical knowledge of period-end close, journals, reconciliations, intercompany, fixed assets, consolidation and group reporting, statutory reporting, accounting policy, master data, internal controls and audit requirements, with the ability to connect process issues to operating-model choices.

GBS and service-delivery exposure. Experience supporting decisions on retained and local-finance versus GBS scope, Global Process Owner and Centre of Excellence roles, organisation, governance, service levels, interfaces, transition and continuous-improvement requirements, including BPO or managed services where relevant.

Technology and data fluency. Ability to understand how enterprise platforms, data and digital capabilities shape a GBS operating model—not just how individual systems work. Connect working knowledge of ERP-enabled R2R transformation and close, reconciliation, consolidation, workflow, process-mining and analytics capabilities.

Automation, AI and auditability. A working understanding of how automation and AI can reshape R2R activities, including journal preparation, reconciliation matching, exception detection, close orchestration and narrative reporting. You can help assess which activities are suitable for automation or AI enablement, where finance judgement and accountability must remain with people, and how roles, decision rights, hand-offs and exception management should change.

Client, team and sector capability. Strong facilitation and presentation skills, analysis, process-mapping, documentation and stakeholder management; confidence in contributing in client workshops and owning defined deliverables; and experience in Consumer Goods & Services, Utilities and/or Energy.

What you'll be accountable for

  • Assess the current R2R operating model by analysing service scope, activity location, organisation and capacity, close performance, process variation, policies, controls, data, enabling systems, service measures and the root causes of operational pain.
  • Support the development of the target R2R service model and activity-placement options across group or corporate controllership, local and statutory finance, GBS/GCC, Global Process Owners, Centres of Excellence and external service providers. Use evidence to assess value, feasibility, risk and implementation dependencies.
  • Develop detailed operating-model and service-design deliverables for assigned R2R areas, covering activity scope, roles, decision rights, capacity, governance, controls, hand-offs and service interfaces. This may include areas such as general ledger and close, journals, reconciliations, intercompany, fixed assets, consolidation, group and statutory reporting, and master data, together with interfaces to P2P, O2C, Tax, Treasury and FP&A.
  • Assess the implications of standardisation, automation and AI for the future operating model, including which activities can be automated or technology-enabled, where finance judgement and accountability must remain with people, and how roles, approvals, exception handling, controls and audit evidence should change.
  • Translate operating-model decisions into clear business, data and control requirements for ERP, close and reconciliation tools, workflow, analytics, automation and AI. Work with technology, data, controls and architecture specialists to clarify requirements and support their traceability through solution design, testing and implementation.
  • Contribute to R2R governance and service-management design, including process ownership, RACIs, SLAs and OLAs, performance and control measures, escalation routes, service-review forums and continuous-improvement routines.
  • Build supporting analysis for the case for change, benefits and implementation roadmap, and contribute to transition planning, knowledge transfer, business readiness, control changes, training, testing, cutover and early-life stabilisation.
  • Produce clear, client-ready deliverables and support focused workshops with finance, controllership, GBS and technology stakeholders. Manage your assigned outputs, risks and dependencies, collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to proposals and reusable R2R assets.
