General Warehouse Operative & Occasional Driver

Overview

General Warehouse Operative & Occasional Driver

Leicester Building Plastics is a small, family-run builders merchant, and we’re looking for a reliable, hardworking person to join our team.

We’re a close-knit team of around 12 people with a great atmosphere and high team morale. We work hard, have plenty of banter along the way, and genuinely look after the people who work for us.

We want to be upfront: this is a physical, hands-on job and it can be hard graft. You’ll be picking and packing orders, loading vans, moving and putting away stock, keeping the warehouse and yard organised, and generally getting stuck in wherever needed.

You’ll also occasionally make deliveries in one of our vans/flatbeds, so a full UK driving licence is essential.

We’re looking for someone who is dependable, takes pride in doing a good job and, importantly, fits in well with a small team. Previous warehouse, builders merchant, trade counter or forklift experience would be an advantage, but attitude and work ethic are just as important to us.

Duties

  • Safely load, unload, and move materials within the warehouse using appropriate equipment such as forklifts and manual handling techniques
  • Pick and pack items accurately for orders, ensuring quality control and timely dispatch
  • Occasionally drive company vehicles to deliver goods locally, adhering to all safety regulations and traffic laws
  • Keep the yard and warehouse tidy and organised

Qualifications/Experience

  • Picking and packing customer orders accurately and efficiently
  • Loading company vans and flatbeds ready for deliveries
  • Occasionally making local and multi-drop customer deliveries
  • Unloading incoming deliveries and checking stock
  • Moving and handling building materials around the warehouse and yard
  • Keeping the warehouse and yard well stocked, tidy and organised
  • Assisting customers and colleagues when required
  • Using a forklift where appropriate if trained/qualified
  • Taking care of company vehicles, equipment and stock
  • Being willing to muck in and help the rest of the team when needed

You’ll be a good fit if you:

  • Are reliable, punctual and have a strong work ethic
  • Are comfortable with a physically demanding role
  • Enjoy working as part of a small, close-knit team
  • Can have a laugh while still getting the job done
  • Are happy to take responsibility and use your initiative
  • Have a full UK driving licence
  • Are aged 18+ due to the driving requirements of the role
  • Have previous warehouse, builders merchant, trade or forklift experience — desirable but not essential

Pay: £12.71-£19.79 per hour

Expected hours: 45.0 per week

Work Location: In person
