Head of Health and Safety

Ready to revolutionize healthcare, making it faster and more accessible than ever before?

How we started:

Back in 2013, our founder Dwayne D’Souza saw an opportunity to give people faster and more convenient access to medications using technology. We\'ve grown rapidly since our inception, without any external funding whatsoever – achieving profitability through innovation and a highly disciplined approach to growth.

Where we are now:

We’ve earned the trust of millions of people worldwide through our top-selling products and well-known brands: MedExpress, Dermatica, ZipHealth, RocketRX, and Levity. A lot of our success is down to having our own pharmacies, manufacturers and products – spearheaded by leading in-house medical teams, researchers and pharmacists. Between 2023 and 2024 our global revenue tripled; £60m to £180m (300% year-on-year growth). We\'re looking to do the same in 2025; move into new territories, and further accelerate our growth journey. There’s never been a more exciting time to join HeliosX.

Where we’re going:

Over the next five years, you’ll support our goal to become a world-leading healthcare partner, deepening our customer relationships, expanding into new countries, and diversifying our product portfolio to treat more conditions. You’ll be part of helping more people access prescription treatments and, most importantly, making personalised care better, quicker and easier for everyone.

Come be a part of making our dream of easier and faster healthcare a reality!

About the role:

We’re looking for a visionary Head of Health & Safety to build, lead, and scale our safety function across the UK and US — starting with our Midlands-based fulfilment operation. This isn’t a role for someone who just “keeps the lights on.” We need a leader who thrives on building from the ground up, someone ready to create a fit-for-scale safety strategy that will shape our global operations for years to come.

The role holder will own Health and Safety for the group and develop a suite of reporting, controls and standards that can be used as the template for all future site launches globally. This is a key role in the success of the growth within HeliosX so the accountabilities are not exhaustive.

What you\'ll be doing:

Strategic Leadership & Culture

  • Define and implement a clear, scalable health and safety strategy for Helios X Group across all sites.
  • Be a visible and active champion of a proactive safety culture, embedding safety into everyday behaviours and leadership expectations.
  • Build reporting and governance mechanisms that surface key risks, actions, and accountability to the Executive team and Board.

System and Tools

  • Evaluate and overhaul the current patchwork of systems, tools, and processes used to manage H&S across the business.
  • Lead the selection and implementation of a fit-for-purpose system for audits, incident tracking, and risk management.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across operational areas including fulfilment centres, office spaces, and laboratories.Ensure compliance with UK health and safety legislation (and US standards - OSHA), including RIDDOR, COSHH, DSEAR, and CDM where applicable.
  • Prepare the business for external audits, regulatory inspections, and insurance reviews.
    Incident Management
  • Lead investigations into accidents and near-misses, ensuring robust root cause analysis and follow-up actions are taken.
  • Produce and present safety performance reports and key metrics (e.g. LTIFR, incident trends, audit findings) to senior stakeholders.
  • Build and lead a small team of Health and Safety Champions and local safety reps across sites.
  • Provide coaching, capability development, and ongoing training to site managers and leadership.
  • Cross-Functional Projects
  • Partner with Infrastructure and Operations teams to scope, evaluate, and sign off new equipment (e.g. automation, conveyors, racking systems) to ensure safety is engineered into design.
  • Collaborate with the product and logistics teams to assess risk on new services, fulfilment flows, and packaging processes.
What you\'ll bring to the role:

Experience:

  • Experience working in high-growth or scale-up businesses.
  • At least 10 years of experience in a health and safety leadership role, ideally in warehousing, logistics, e-commerce, or manufacturing..
  • At least 5 years experience in a similar senior role or equivalent.
  • Experience designing and implementing safety systems, training programmes and reporting frameworks.
  • Track record of delivering substantial changes projects / programmes across multiple locations / territories.
  • Site launch experience across multiple geographies
  • Start-up / scale-up experience, demonstrating working in high growth operations with both scale and complexity.
  • Rigorous attention to detail including proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to work independently with a high degree of accountability, while also being able to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • A leader of programmes and critical thinker with an eye for continuous improvement.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional change and embed cultural improvements.

Skills:

  • Ability to effectively present information to senior leadership and public groups.
  • Working knowledge of MRP / ERP and safety systems.
  • Data driven with the ability to master complex business problems.
  • Project management
  • Great communication skills across various stakeholder management.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and decision making skills.
