If you’re motivated, knowledgeable and confident working with clients, we’re looking for you! Join our growing team in Darlington as a Health & Safety Advisor/Consultant and play a key role in supporting our clients to maintain safe, compliant and effective workplaces.

Details:

  • This is an office based role
  • Must have valid and current Right to Work in the UK
  • 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Office based, in Darlington
  • Salary £29,000 – 31,000 per annum (FTE)
  • 31 days’ holiday per year including bank holidays
  • 3-month probation period
  • Travel is an essential part of this role, with regular visits to client sites across the Northeast and other areas of the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build strong relationships with clients, providing practical health and safety advice both face-to-face and remotely.
  • Visit client sites to identify risks, carry out audits and provide practical recommendations.
  • Prepare bespoke policies, risk assessments, method statements and other health and safety documentation.
  • Carry out audits and investigations, producing clear reports and action plans.
  • Keep up to date with legislation and communicate relevant changes to clients.
  • Support clients with health and safety accreditations such as CHAS and Safe Contractor.
  • Review and update client documentation to maintain compliance and good practice.
  • Proactively manage client relationships through regular check-ins, reviews and site visits.
  • Identify opportunities to support clients with additional services and solutions, with a proactive approach to business development and upselling.
  • Maintain accurate client records using our CRM system.
  • Work as part of a supportive team and contribute ideas to continually improve the service we provide.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate – minimum requirement. Please do not apply without this qualification.
  • At least 3 years’ recent and relevant experience in a Health & Safety Advisor, Consultant or similar role.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to communicate effectively with clients.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites.
  • A proactive, practical approach with a keen eye for detail and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong client-facing and relationship-building skills, with a willingness to identify opportunities to support clients with additional services.
  • Confident and professional telephone manner, with the ability to build rapport and provide clear advice to clients.

Desirable:

  • NEBOSH Fire Certificate or a recognised fire safety qualification.
  • Familiarity or experience working in a health and safety consultancy environment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety accreditation schemes, such as CHAS and Safe Contractor.
  • Understanding of ISO 45001 and health and safety management systems.
  • Confidence in delivering health and safety training and toolbox talks.
  • Knowledge of accident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • A broad understanding of different industries.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to recognise opportunities to add value for clients.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and client management processes.
