Job Description:

About the role

The Health Discipline Lead is responsible for occupational health, industrial hygiene, public health and wellbeing across bp's Supply, Trading & Shipping (ST&S) business.

Operating across a broad international workforce and a variety of operating environments, the role helps ensure that health considerations remain an integral part of how work is planned and carried out. It brings together specialist knowledge, business priorities and local expertise to support a balanced workforce, reduce exposure to workplace hazards and maintain compliance with regulatory and company requirements.

Working with ST&S leadership, HSE teams and regional health hubs, the role provides oversight of health priorities across the business, from workplace exposure risks and wellbeing initiatives through to emergency response planning, contractor support and health-related assurance activities.

Key responsibilities

Health activities across ST&S span prevention, assurance, performance monitoring and operational support. The Health Discipline Lead sets priorities for these activities, supports consistency across regions and ensures that health-related matters receive appropriate attention within the business.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Providing advice on occupational health, industrial hygiene, public health and wellbeing matters.
  • Identifying health risks and supporting plans to address them.
  • Reviewing health performance information and highlighting emerging themes or areas of concern.
  • Supporting responses to significant health-related incidents and events.
  • Supervising relationships with health service providers and specialist consultants.
  • Representing ST&S within relevant industry, regulatory and professional forums.

Experience and qualifications

Applications are encouraged from professionals qualified in Occupational Health, Occupational Medicine, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health or a related rigor.

Experience gained within industrial, energy, maritime, logistics, manufacturing, trading or other operational environments will be valued, together with an understanding of workplace health risks and applicable regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate is likely to bring experience of:

  • Applying health standards and requirements within sophisticated organisations.
  • Working with senior leaders and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Interpreting data and using information to advise decisions.
  • Handling ambitious priorities across different locations and activities.
  • Presenting clearly with technical and non-technical audiences.

Experience within shipping, trading, energy or other higher-hazard industries would be advantageous, as would exposure to emergency response, infectious disease management, remote medical services or related areas of practice.
