Conduct thorough research and gather information from various sources to develop compelling news stories and content for BBC Radio Somerset. Stay up-to-date on current events and news stories, both locally and nationally, and pitch relevant and timely ideas to the editorial team. Conduct interviews with key individuals and experts to gather insights and quotes for news pieces. Write clear, concise, and accurate news articles that appeal to our target audience and align with BBC's journalistic standards. Collaborate with the production team to ensure that news stories are delivered in a timely and engaging manner on-air. Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts and sources to stay informed about local news and events. Take initiative to identify and cover stories that may not be mainstream but are of interest to our audience. Ensure that all content is factually accurate, unbiased, and adheres to BBC's code of ethics. Contribute to the development of new and innovative content ideas and formats that will attract and retain listeners. Act as a representative of BBC Radio Somerset, attending events and building relationships within the local community. Collaborate with the social media team to promote news stories and engage with listeners on various platforms. Meet tight deadlines and work efficiently under pressure to deliver breaking news and live coverage. Continuously monitor and evaluate the audience's response to news content, making adjustments and improvements as needed. Adhere to BBC's policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety, diversity, and equal opportunities.
