Maintenance and Reservations Couple – Live In

We are looking for a couple (or friends willing to share a room) to join our team at Hell Bay Hotel in Maintenance and Reservations positions.

Due to limited accommodation, these roles are only suitable for a couple or two friends willing to share a room. Regretfully, we cannot accept single applications for this vacancy.

  • Department: Hell Bay Hotel
  • Salary: Maintenance Manager - from £13.50 per hour, dependent on experience
  • Reservationist - from £13.00 per hour, dependent on experience
  • Benefits: Tips, accommodation and all meals provided (meals from March-October only)
  • Hours: Full time, 2 days off per week
  • Contract Length: Seasonal, October 2026 to October 2027 (Maintenance Manager with potential to become permanent)

Maintenance Manager

Duties Include:

  • Managing a team whilst prioritising and actioning all hotel maintenance requirements.
  • Ensuring high standards of functionality, efficiency and health and safety throughout the property
  • Repairing damaged facilities and equipment, painting and decorating, and assisting the Hotel Manager with coordinating renovations and additional projects
  • Swimming pool and plant room maintenance, maintenance of sewage systems, waste disposal, and general gardening/outdoor maintenance
  • Liaising with our wider Services and Maintenance teams on Tresco for assistance with repairs, as well as meeting freight boats and transporting deliveries to the hotel
  • Guest-facing work, including assisting the Porter with transporting luggage to and from the quay, and meeting and greeting guests from the boat upon arrival

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Experience in a similar role (essential), along with any qualifications or exposure to: electrics, plumbing, fire safety, carpentry, plant room management and relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence (essential)
  • A hands-on, can-do person with an eye for detail
  • Able to prioritise conflicting demands and allocate budget accordingly
  • Welcoming and helpful with friendly customer service
  • Able to quickly pick up new skills in a new environment
  • Proactive, self-motivated and able to work well both individually and as part of a larger team
  • Good communication and people management skills
  • Willing to work weekends and be on call two evenings per week
  • Previous telehandler experience (desirable)

Reservationist

Duties Include:

  • Welcoming and checking guests in and out of the hotel
  • Assisting with reservations and quotes, responding to emails and undertaking administration duties as required
  • Assist guests with general queries regarding boat trips, local knowledge and informing guests of travel arrangements
  • Handling mail and daily banking, as well as keeping the office clean and tidy
  • Keeping the hotel shop stocked and processing transactions
  • Listening to guest baby monitors in the evenings
  • Coordinating with housekeeping and maintenance teams to keep suites maintained to the highest standard

  • Must have a polite and friendly manner
  • Able to work well as part of a team as well as alone
  • Should have excellent customer service skills that can be evidenced
  • Must have English fluency and the ability to converse easily with a wide range of people, both in writing and verbally
  • Will be self-motivated with a proven ability to work in an organised and efficient manner
  • Should have the ability to remain calm and professional in busy and high-pressure situations
  • Must have ability to prioritise tasks effectively
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Outlook, Excel, Word and Access
  • Previous work experience in a reception or reservations environment is desired
