Paralegal/Litigation Executive - Police Team

The Role


Clyde & Co is seeking a motivated and organised Paralegal/Litigation Executive to join our highly regarded Police Team in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside leading lawyers acting for police forces and their insurers on a wide range of complex and sensitive litigation matters.


The successful candidate will work closely with partners, legal directors, associates and other members of the team, assisting with the management of a varied caseload involving civil claims against police forces, public liability matters, human rights claims, inquests and other police-related litigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting fee earners with the management of litigated and pre-litigated claims on behalf of police force clients.
  • Drafting correspondence, court documents, witness instructions and reports.
  • Reviewing and analysing police records, disclosure documentation, medical evidence and other case materials.
  • Conducting legal research and preparing case summaries.
  • Liaising with clients, witnesses, counsel, experts and third parties.
  • Managing document review exercises and maintaining electronic case files.
  • Assisting with the preparation of cases for hearings, trials, mediations and inquests.
  • Preparing instructions to counsel and experts.
  • Monitoring court deadlines and ensuring compliance with procedural requirements.
  • Handling confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Supporting business development initiatives and client relationship activities where appropriate.
  • Ensuring time recording is maintained accurately and promptly.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Previous paralegal experience, preferably within litigation or defendant insurance work include Employers Liability and Public Liability experience.
  • Strong academic background, Minimum 2:1 degree, AAB at A level
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • High attention to detail and analytical ability.
  • Confidence working with large volumes of documentation and evidence.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and case management systems.

Desirable

  • Experience of defendant litigation, public authority defence work or insurance-related matters.
  • Exposure to civil litigation and court procedures.
  • Understanding of police, public sector or regulatory environments.
  • Experience preparing court bundles and disclosure documentation.
