As an intern with Barclays you’ll be embedded with one of our Quant teams, we’ll expect you to have a tangible impact on our business from day one, using the latest AI tools to work on algorithmic trading strategies, researching and developing models or producing data analysis tools for valuation and risk management.

Markets Quantitative Analytics (Markets QA)

Markets Quantitative Analytics develops the models, data science and insights that underpin trading, risk management and decision-making across Global Markets.  By combining quantitative research, technology and market expertise, the team automates strategies, enhances analytics and delivers scalable solutions that improve franchise performance.

Risk Quantitative Analytics (Risk QA)

Risk Quantitative Analytics develops the models, analytics and technology that enable Barclays to measure, manage and optimise financial risk across the firm.  By combining quantitative research and software engineering, the team delivers data-driven insights and scalable solutions that support decision-making, regulatory compliance and risk management.

Electronic Trading (eTrading)

Markets Electronic develops, operates and governs Barclays' global electronic trading capabilities, delivering the platforms, algorithms, quantitative models, client connectivity and automation that enable clients to trade seamlessly across asset classes at scale.  The team combines trading, quantitative research, data science, technology, and risk control expertise to drive revenue growth, market-making, execution quality, resilience and innovation across Global Markets' eTrading franchise.

Who we’re looking for

Logical problem-solvers do well here. You’ll have completed (or be in your final year of) a postgraduate qualification (Master’s degree or higher) in a technical discipline such as Physics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, Statistics, Stochastic Calculus, Computer Science, or other STEM subjects, with strong programming skills, particularly Python, C++, or Java.
 

You’ll be great at communicating and collaborating – driven to identify the best solution to a problem and then motivated to deliver that solution at pace.
 

You’ll also be ready to develop a deep understanding of what we do, why we do it, and how your role impacts our business outcomes.

Barclays will accept applications from candidates who require visa sponsorship to work in the UK and will provide a skilled worker visa for successful applicants if they meet the Home Office’s eligibility criteria for a skilled worker visa. Purpose of the role

Bringing quantitative and analytical expertise to bear across the full spectrum of our Markets and Risk businesses. Our Early Careers colleagues are expected to play an important role in the design and development of risk management and trading strategies, through the use of quantitative analysis, mathematical modelling, and technology, with the aim of optimising trading processes, development practices, systems and infrastructure as well as identifying growth and investment opportunities.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement quantitative models and strategies to enhance decision-making, pricing, and risk management. 
  • Design and maintain high-performance trading platforms and risk systems, integrating new features to improve reliability and user experience. 
  • Conduct research and data analysis to uncover market trends and drive innovation through advanced methodologies and technologies. 
  • Collaborate with traders, sales teams, and stakeholders in Risk and Finance to deliver customized solutions and translate business needs into scalable tech tools. 
  • Work cross-functionally with compliance, IT, and strategy teams to resolve system issues and continuously improve trading infrastructure.
