This is a regional graduate programme based in the South-West and Wales. Successful candidates should expect to rotate between placements in Bristol, Cardiff and Swansea.

About the business area

Commercial Banking is our business-to-business offering, helping businesses of all sizes to grow - from small enterprises to large multinationals. We provide expert advice and essential services dependent on business needs. These could include trade finance, global payments, multi-currency accounts, commercial cards and insurance, alongside many others.

Who you are

You’re someone who enjoys building trusted relationships, supporting clients and working with others to solve problems. You’ll thrive if you’re curious, proactive and comfortable in a fast-paced environment where detail matters. You’ll need strong communication skills, relationship-building ability, teamwork, adaptability, attention to detail and the confidence to take ownership of your work. An interest in client needs, financial solutions and working across teams such as Legal, Credit and Risk will help you succeed. You don’t need prior banking experience or deep product knowledge before you join — we’ll help you build that through structured training and rotations. What matters most is your mindset, your willingness to learn and your ability to connect with people.

What you'll do

You’ll start your programme with two six-month placements in Product teams, building a strong understanding of the financial solutions that help businesses operate, grow and manage risk. You could analyse client and market data to identify trends, support product design and pricing, contribute to financial analysis and credit assessments, or work with colleagues in risk, legal, operations and technology to support product delivery and maintain effective controls.

You’ll then take these foundations into a 12-month Coverage placement, using your product, credit and risk knowledge to support client relationships. You’ll help understand client objectives, identify opportunities, coordinate specialist expertise and balance client needs with commercial returns and risk. It’s a structured path from understanding how solutions work to helping build trusted, long-term client partnerships.

What you'll learn

You’ll build a practical understanding of how Commercial Banking supports businesses, from designing and delivering financial solutions to managing client relationships. You’ll learn how products are structured, priced and developed, while deepening your knowledge of financial analysis, credit risk, data, commercial returns and the controls that support sound decision-making. As you progress, you’ll apply these foundations to understand client objectives, identify opportunities and coordinate the right expertise. By the end, you’ll have a strong grounding in Commercial Banking products, a clearer view of how we support clients and the commercial awareness, relationship-management skills and confidence to move into a permanent client-facing role.

Where you'll work

You’ll work in Commercial Banking, as part of a relationship-led team that supports business clients through close partnership and joined-up expertise. You’ll be surrounded by colleagues across areas like Credit, Risk and Legal, giving you a broad view of how different functions come together around client needs. It’s a collaborative, professional environment where teamwork, trust and communication matter. Expect a fast-moving office culture with strong support from colleagues and exposure to the wider commercial banking network.
