What you'll do From day one, you'll work with Relationship Managers and specialist teams to support Commercial Banking clients. You'll help build an understanding of each client's business, goals and challenges, and see how HSBC brings together the right expertise to respond. You could support client presentations, reports and credit papers, help with strategic reviews and pitches, and carry out financial analysis and risk assessments on portfolios and transactions. You'll also work with colleagues across Legal, Credit and Risk, and see how teams collaborate across functions and geographies to deliver tailored solutions. It's practical, relationship-led work that gives you real exposure to how client partnerships are built and supported. What you'll learn You'll start with structured training from local and external experts, giving you the technical grounding to begin with confidence. As your placement progresses, you'll build a stronger understanding of relationship management in Commercial Banking, including how products, client needs and specialist teams come together to support businesses. You'll also deepen your commercial awareness by seeing how relationship-led banking balances opportunity, service and risk. The placement is designed to help you connect what you learn to the bigger picture of how commercial banking works in practice. By the end, you'll have a clearer understanding of this area of the bank, stronger professional confidence and a better sense of where you could make your mark. Where you'll work You'll work in Commercial Banking, in a relationship-led environment supporting business clients through close teamwork and specialist expertise. You'll be part of a collaborative office culture where Relationship Managers work closely with colleagues across Credit, Risk and Legal to deliver joined-up support. It's a professional setting that values trust, communication and strong internal partnerships. Expect exposure to a business area where client relationships sit at the centre and teamwork makes the difference.

  • Will have completed your undergraduate studies by July 2029
  • Able to complete a placement programme as part of your undergraduate studies , graduating in 2029
  • On-track to obtain a minimum of a 2:1 undergraduate degree (or overseas equivalent to this)
  • Be in your penultimate year of undergraduate study
  • Fluent in English
  • Legally permitted to work in the UK for the full duration of the programme and beyond the end date, without requiring HSBC visa sponsorship
  • Please provide your achieved or expected final undergraduate degree result using the grading system used by your university (e.g. 2:1, First Class, GPA 3.5/4.0, 75% or local equivalent).
