Depending on your expertise, tuition could cover:

  • GCSE Chemistry

You can choose which qualifications, levels and examination boards you offer.

The role

  • Planning focused lessons around individual learning needs
  • Explaining chemical concepts, equations and calculations clearly
  • Helping students understand practical methods, variables and sources of error

  • Understand the curriculum and assessment requirements of at least one UK examination board
  • Be able to explain chemical calculations and practical investigations clearly
  • Be available to teach during appropriate UK hours
  • Have reliable internet access, a webcam and a microphone
  • Be comfortable delivering individual lessons entirely online
  • Communicate clearly and adapt teaching to different students

Registration with the DBS Update Service is preferred but is not essential, provided that a suitable enhanced DBS certificate can be verified.

Preferred applicants

Qualified Chemistry or Science teachers with QTS are strongly preferred.

We would also be pleased to hear from:

  • Current or former Chemistry examiners
  • Experienced GCSE, iGCSE or A-Level Chemistry tutors
  • Teachers with experience delivering Combined Science
  • Tutors familiar with required practical assessments
  • Subject specialists with relevant Chemistry qualifications

How tutoring through Klasu works

Klasu is a UK online tutoring marketplace. This is a flexible, self-employed opportunity rather than a salaried teaching position.

Approved tutors receive a verified public profile where they can present their:

  • Teaching and tutoring experience
  • Qualifications and verification status
  • Chemistry levels and examination boards
  • Hourly lesson price
  • Available teaching times

Students and parents can review this information before contacting a tutor or submitting a lesson request.

Tutors decide:

  • The hourly lesson price displayed on their profile
  • The days and times they are available
  • Which Chemistry courses and levels they teach
  • Whether to accept a particular lesson request

What Klasu provides

Klasu provides tutors with:

  • A professional public tutor profile
  • Secure student messaging
  • Availability and lesson-request tools
  • Automated bookings, payment collection and reminders
  • An integrated online classroom
  • Video, screen sharing and an interactive whiteboard
  • Automatic payments to a connected bank account
  • No application fee
  • No charge to create or maintain a tutor profile

Students may request a free 15-minute introduction before deciding whether to arrange paid lessons.

Earnings and employment status

Tutors choose the hourly lesson price displayed on their profile.

Depending on the price selected, tutors can earn £20–£60 per completed paid lesson hour after Klasu’s 30% platform commission and before tax.

The platform commission covers payment processing, bookings and the technology used to operate the marketplace and online classroom.

Tutors work on a self-employed basis and are responsible for their own tax and National Insurance arrangements. Klasu cannot guarantee a particular number of students, enquiries, bookings, lessons or working hours.

Safeguarding and verification

A suitable enhanced DBS certificate is required for this vacancy.

Before a Chemistry tutor profile can be published, successful applicants must complete Klasu’s verification process. This includes:

  • Enhanced DBS evidence
  • Identity verification
  • Proof-of-address verification
  • Qualification checks where applicable
  • A minimum of two professional references

Tutors must follow Klasu’s safeguarding and professional-conduct requirements. Student communication, bookings and online lessons must remain on the Klasu platform.

How to apply

Apply directly at:

klasu.co.uk/become-a-tutor/chemistry-tutor

Applications are personally reviewed, normally within five working days. Suitable applicants will be invited to complete Klasu’s online tutor application and verification process.

Following successful approval and verification, your Chemistry tutor profile can be published for students and parents to discover.

Pay: £20.00-£60.00 per hour
