Remote Microsoft 365 & SharePoint Governance Advisor
We're looking for an experienced Microsoft 365 / SharePoint professional to spend a few hours a week over 2–3 months helping us design a clean, secure document system and a simple IT governance footing as we grow.
What difference will you make?
Gambling Harm UK is a small but growing public health charity. We're scaling from a couple of staff to around seven, plus associates and volunteers. Most of our work lives in Microsoft 365, but as we've grown quickly, our document storage has grown organically too, and we now want to put it on a deliberate, secure, and well-organised footing before we scale further.
A skilled volunteer in this role will help us protect the sensitive information we hold, reduce our information-governance and cyber risk, and build digital foundations that can scale. Your work will directly free up senior leadership time for frontline harm-prevention work, and give our trustees confidence that our systems are secure and well-run. It's a high-impact, well-bounded way to put deep technical expertise to good use.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with a minimum of three years' professional experience in Microsoft 365 and SharePoint administration, ideally including information architecture and permissions design.
- Solid hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online, ideally including information architecture and permissions design.
- A good working understanding of data protection (UK GDPR) and basic cyber-security good practice, charity, SME or public-sector experience especially welcome.
- The ability to explain technical choices in plain English to non-technical trustees and staff, and to be pragmatic about what a small charity realistically needs.
- A self-starting, advisory style, comfortable scoping a problem and recommending a sensible, proportionate way forward.
You do not need prior charity-sector experience, and you don't need to be local, this role is fully remote.
Remote
What will you be doing?
This is an advisory and scoping role, you'll be our trusted expert helping us make good decisions, not acting as our day-to-day IT support. Working closely with our CEO and Director of Operations, you would help us
- Review our current Microsoft 365 / SharePoint setup and design a clear information architecture, site and library structure, naming conventions, and a simple permissions model that works as the team grows
- Draft a plain-English IT and data-security policy suitable for a small charity, covering access control, secure handling of sensitive information, password management, and joiner/leaver processes
- Advise on practical Microsoft 365 governance and good-practice safeguards, multi-factor authentication, backups, and reducing everyday data-protection and cyber risk
- Help us scope what we need from an external managed IT provider and write a short requirements brief, so we can choose the right ongoing support with confidence.
You would set the direction and the standards; we (and any provider we appoint) would do the hands-on implementation. The role does not require administrator access to our live systems.
