Sector Leader - Central Government
Central Government Sector Leader
Our Client | ~£145,000 basic + up to 40% bonus | Farringdon (1-2 days/week)
About Our Client
Our client is an AI-native, human-led consultancy helping government and public sector organisations reimagine, reinvent and lead their markets into the AI era. They combine strategic insight with execution smarts to deliver real, lasting change for their clients.
Alongside consulting, they build their own AI-powered products through an internal innovation function, tackling some of the biggest challenges across the markets they serve.
The Role
This is not a delivery role, a programme management position, or a job running consulting engagements. The Central Government Sector Leader will own and grow the firm's entire Central Government consulting business, effectively running their own business within the organisation.
You'll define the sector strategy, build relationships across government, win consulting work, and establish the firm as a recognised name in the Central Government market.
Around 70% of the role is focused on commercial growth: winning new consulting opportunities, building senior relationships across Central Government, growing existing accounts, developing new clients, shaping new consulting propositions, and representing the firm externally at conferences and government events.
The remainder involves supporting delivery, working with internal consultants, helping shape propositions, and building capability across the growing Central Government practice. You'll own revenue - not personally deliver projects.
What You'll Be Doing
- Defining and owning the Central Government sector growth strategy
- Building a robust pipeline of consulting, transformation, digital and advisory opportunities
- Leading strategic client pursuits and major bids and proposals
- Building senior relationships with Permanent Secretaries, Directors General and Senior Civil Servants
- Acting as executive sponsor for key client accounts
- Creating and refreshing commercially viable consulting propositions
- Representing the firm at industry events, conferences and government forums
- Leading, coaching and developing a high-performing sector team
- Working closely with Consulting, Products, Delivery, Marketing and Executive teams to align market priorities with delivery capability
What We're Looking For
- A background in management, technology or transformation consulting - this is essential; we're not looking for career civil servants or internal government leaders
- A track record of growing a Central Government consulting practice and winning major government consulting engagements
- Existing relationships across the Central Government ecosystem (e.g. Cabinet Office, HM Treasury, DfE, Home Office, MoJ, DWP, DfT, DHSC, MHCLG, DEFRA, HMRC, NHS England, executive agencies or arms-length bodies)
- Understanding of government procurement, Cabinet Office frameworks, digital government, AI adoption, operating model redesign and policy implementation
- Experience owning significant consulting revenue and building/leading senior consulting teams
- A profile as a thought leader - speaking at industry events and publishing insight
Package
- Basic salary up to £145,000, depending on experience
- Up to 40% bonus based on firm and individual performance
- 27 days' annual leave (excluding bank holidays), rising to 30 based on performance
- Private medical and dental insurance
- Hybrid working, with 1-2 days per week in our clients' Farringdon office
