Skilled Streetmason Location: Leicester Salary: £19.69 per hour via Umbrella Job Type: Full-time, Temporary Contract, 37 hours per week We are seeking a Skilled Streetmason to join our City Development & Neighbourhood Services team. These roles are crucial in the construction, maintenance, and repair of highway infrastructure including roads, footpaths, and drainage features. This opportunity is ideal for individuals passionate about public service and skilled in precise construction work. Day-to-day of the role: Undertake a variety of tasks related to the construction and maintenance of highway and drainage features such as roads, footpaths, and drains to required specifications. Lay natural and pre-cast paving materials such as slabs, kerbs, blocks, and granite setts with precision. Perform associated highway construction works including bituminous and concrete carriageway construction and the installation/maintenance of drainage features. Engage in general manual/labouring tasks involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of highways, sewers, and watercourses. Perform ‘Banksman’ duties, supervising excavators and vehicles to ensure safe operation. Operate powered tools, minor plant, and machines, and drive, clean, and perform routine maintenance on vehicles and tractors with simple attachments. Liaise with residents, pedestrians, and car drivers to explain works and traffic/pedestrian arrangements, sometimes involving moving cars and discussing/agreeing access arrangements. Train and develop lesser skilled operatives, including trainees and apprentices. Participate in the out of hours standby rota throughout the year. Required Skills & Qualifications: Proven knowledge and experience of streetmasonry, construction/highway works, construction specifications, materials, compaction, and workmanship requirements. Experience in undertaking ‘Banksman’ duties, supervising excavators and vehicles, and following safe digging techniques. Ability to interpret instructions and/or drawings. Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with the public and team members. Capability to supervise, mentor, and train lesser skilled staff. Benefits: Training and development opportunities.
