Time to Talk Mental Health UK is a dedicated online peer support community that offers a safe, confidential space for individuals over 18 living in the UK to share their mental health experiences. Led by and for people with lived experience, the platform fosters empathy, understanding, and mutual support through moderated social media interactions and engaging group activities.

Overview

We are seeking passionate and motivated Volunteer Online Moderators to join our team in maintaining a positive, respectful, and supportive environment on our digital platform.

As a Volunteer Online Moderator, you will play a vital role in ensuring members feel safe to express themselves while upholding community guidelines. This unpaid role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals navigating mental health challenges through active online engagement and mentorship.

Duties

  • Monitor online discussions to ensure they adhere to community standards and guidelines
  • Support members by fostering respectful interactions and encouraging positive engagement
  • Identify and address any inappropriate or harmful content promptly and effectively
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to members who seek support or have questions about mental health topics
  • Collaborate with the moderation team to develop initiatives that promote community well-being
  • Assist in organizing virtual events, themed activities, or discussion topics that enhance member participation
  • Document incidents or concerns according to established protocols to maintain a safe environment

Experience

  • Lived experience of a mental illness or looking after a person with a mental illness
  • Strong mentoring skills with the ability to listen empathetically and provide encouragement
  • Knowledge of mental health issues, especially relating to peer support environments
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a positive and approachable demeanor
  • Ability to remain calm, objective, and professional when managing sensitive situations
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting members’ privacy
  • Prior experience in facilitating group discussions is a plus
