Help us strengthen our online presence and reach more people who need our support. We are looking for a volunteer with web skills to help maintain and improve our website, update content, and ensure visitors can easily access information about our services.
What will you be doing?
We are looking for a volunteer with website development and digital support experience to help strengthen our online presence and ensure our website effectively represents our organisation, services and impact. This role will play an important part in helping us reach more people, communicate clearly with our stakeholders and provide a positive experience for visitors to our website.
The volunteer will work closely with our leadership team to understand our organisation's goals, target audiences and priorities. They will review our existing website and identify opportunities to improve its design, functionality, accessibility and overall user experience. We are keen to ensure that visitors can easily find information about our services, activities, events, volunteering opportunities and ways to support our work.
Key responsibilities will include reviewing and updating website content to ensure it is accurate, relevant and engaging. The volunteer may help organise information more effectively, improve navigation and recommend ways to present content that better meets the needs of our users. They may also support the creation of new pages or sections as our organisation develops and new projects or services are introduced.
We would like the volunteer to assess the website's technical performance and identify any issues that may affect usability, accessibility or security. Improve page layouts, ensuring mobile responsiveness, enhancing accessibility for users with different needs and supporting compliance with relevant web standards.
Another important aspect of the role will be advising on digital best practice. We are looking for someone who can help us understand how to improve our visibility online, including recommendations relating to search engine optimisation (SEO), website analytics and user engagement. The volunteer needs to help us identify opportunities to attract more visitors, encourage interaction with our content and better promote our services and activities.
The volunteer should support the integration of online forms, donation tools, event registrations, newsletters or other digital features that help us engage with our community and stakeholders more effectively. Where appropriate, they may provide simple guidance or documentation to help team members maintain and update the website in the future.
This role offers considerable flexibility and can largely be carried out remotely. We are happy to work around the volunteer's availability and welcome both strategic advice and practical support. We value collaboration and open communication and will ensure the volunteer has access to the information and support needed to contribute effectively.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a an experienced, motivated and reliable volunteer who is passionate about using their skills to support Greater Heights Community Events CIC and help us maximise our impact through a strong online presence. The ideal volunteer will have experience in website development, website management or digital communications and will be confident in identifying opportunities to improve both the functionality and effectiveness of a website.
We value volunteers who can listen to our needs, communicate clearly and provide practical solutions that align with our goals and resources. A positive, proactive approach and the ability to work independently are essential, as much of the role can be carried out remotely and may involve managing tasks with minimal supervision.
We would welcome volunteers with experience in website design, web development or content management systems such as WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or similar platforms. Experience of creating, editing or maintaining websites is necessary, including updating content, improving navigation and ensuring websites are user-friendly and accessible. Knowledge of website hosting, domain management and basic troubleshooting would be essential.
An understanding of user experience (UX) principles and website accessibility is particularly valuable. We are keen to ensure that our website is easy to use for all visitors, including people with disabilities and those accessing the site on different devices. Volunteers who can identify ways to improve accessibility, readability and overall user experience will make a significant contribution to the success of the project.
We would also welcome experience in search engine optimisation (SEO), website analytics and digital marketing. Knowledge of how to improve a website's visibility in search results, monitor visitor engagement and make data-driven recommendations would help us reach a wider audience and better promote our services, events and opportunities. Familiarity with tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console or similar platforms would be an advantage.
Strong written communication skills are important, as the volunteer may be involved in reviewing and improving website content. The ability to present information clearly, accurately and engagingly will help ensure our website effectively communicates our work to beneficiaries, supporters, volunteers and partner organisations.
The ideal volunteer will be organised, dependable and able to manage their time effectively. We appreciate individuals who can prioritise tasks, meet agreed deadlines and provide regular updates on progress. Problem-solving skills and attention to detail are also important, particularly when reviewing website functionality, identifying technical issues or implementing improvements.
