About the role

Lads Need Dads CIC supports boys growing up without a consistent father figure and the mums raising them.

We are looking for an experienced Family Support Coordinator to provide regular updates, emotional support and practical guidance to mums whose sons attend our programmes. You will also recruit, train and supervise family support volunteers and develop online support for mothers raising sons alone whose sons are not accessing our programmes.

Alongside this work, you will develop online workshops and establish an online support group.

This role would suit someone who combines direct family support experience with excellent organisation, communication, training and volunteer management skills.

What you will do

  • Build supportive, nonjudgmental relationships with mums through telephone and video contact.
  • Share appropriate programme feedback, including positive progress, and identify where additional support or signposting is needed.
  • Communicate relevant family information to programme colleagues and follow up agreed actions.
  • Recruit, train, coordinate and supervise family support volunteers.
  • Develop and deliver accessible online workshops and facilitated support groups.
  • Help establish an online support offer for mothers raising sons alone beyond our existing programmes.
  • Maintain accurate confidential records and follow safeguarding procedures.
  • Gather feedback from mums and volunteers to improve the service.

The role provides family support, practical guidance and signposting within clear professional boundaries.

Essential requirements

You must have:

  • A minimum of three years’ direct experience in family support work in a paid professional role, providing support to parents, carers and families.
  • A relevant Level 3 qualification or above in family support, work with parents and families, social care, social work or a closely related field. Other qualifications must have clear relevance to direct family support practice.
  • Experience working in the third sector, such as a charity, voluntary or community organisation, or CIC.
  • A training delivery background, including experience planning and delivering online workshops and facilitating online support groups.
  • Experience recruiting and managing volunteers, including induction, supervision and ongoing support.
  • Safeguarding training at Level 2 or above.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong listening skills.
  • Excellent organisation and time management, with the ability to work independently and follow through on actions.
  • Understanding of boys’ development, trauma and the challenges families may face when a consistent father figure is absent.
  • Confidence using online meeting platforms and maintaining secure digital records.

Both the qualification and minimum direct experience requirements are essential.

Experience supporting mothers raising sons alone, knowledge of Essex support services and being based in Essex are desirable.

Working arrangements

The 16 hours will be worked flexibly across the week. Some evening delivery of online support sessions and workshops will be required, with arrangements agreed with the line manager and included within the contracted hours.

You must be able to attend in-person induction and training in Essex and have a suitable private setting for confidential remote work.

Applicants must be based in the UK and have the right to work in the UK. Applications from people based outside the UK will not be considered.

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check, two satisfactory references and verification of the right to work in the UK.
