Ceramic Glazer – Part Time (Mondays & Thursdays)

Pottery Café | Fulham SW6 & Wimbledon SW19

Pay: £13.00 per hour, increasing to £13.50 following successful completion of a six-month probation period.

Hours: Mondays and Thursdays, 9:45 am–6:00 pm.

Location: Primarily our Fulham Road studio, with work also required at our Wimbledon warehouse.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced, reliable and detail-oriented Ceramic Glazer to join our team at Pottery Café.

You’ll play an important role in our pottery production process, ensuring that customers’ painted pieces are carefully glazed, fired and finished to a consistently high standard.

This is a practical, hands-on role requiring previous experience specifically in ceramic glazing and kiln firing. We’re particularly interested in candidates who have experience glazing and firing bisque-fired, decorated pottery, ideally within a pottery-painting studio or similar production environment.

We’re looking for someone who can work confidently and independently while adapting to our established processes and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and apply clear glaze to customers’ painted, bisque-fired pottery with care, accuracy and consistency.
  • Monitor glaze consistency and troubleshoot common glazing issues.
  • Load and unload ceramic kilns safely and efficiently, maximising capacity without compromising quality.
  • Follow established firing procedures and identify potential firing issues.
  • Inspect finished pottery for glazing defects, damage and quality concerns.
  • Bag, label and organise completed customer orders accurately.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe glazing workspace.
  • Follow all relevant health and safety procedures.
  • Assist with other pottery production and warehouse tasks when required.

Essential requirements

  • A minimum of one year’s practical experience specifically in ceramic glazing and kiln firing.
  • Confident handling, glazing and firing ceramic pieces.
  • Experience loading and unloading kilns and following firing procedures.
  • Good understanding of glaze application, consistency and common defects.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently and reliably.
  • Availability to work both Mondays and Thursdays, 9:45 am–6:00 pm.
  • Willingness and ability to work at both our Fulham studio and Wimbledon warehouse as required.

Experience working with bisque-fired, decorated pottery in a pottery-painting studio or similar environment is highly desirable.

General ceramics or pottery-making experience alone is not sufficient for this position. Applicants must have practical glazing and kiln-firing experience.

What we offer

  • £13.00 per hour, increasing to £13.50 upon successful completion of the six-month probation period.
  • A welcoming, creative working environment.
  • Employee discounts on pottery painting.
  • Opportunities to develop professionally and potentially progress into a senior glazing role.

How to apply

Please submit your CV and a short message outlining your practical experience with ceramic glazing and kiln firing, including the types of kilns and glazing techniques you have worked with.
