We are looking for a reliable, punctual, and creative Cake & Dessert Decorator to join our team.

The role involves decorating and finishing a variety of fresh cream cakes, cake slices, cheesecakes, and other dessert items. You will also deal directly with customers, including taking custom orders in-store and making sure their requirements are understood and prepared correctly.

Please note: this is not a baking position. No baking is required.

We have two stores in Eltham and Greenwich, and you must be willing to travel between the two locations when required. You will not be expected to work at both stores on the same day.

Responsibilities

  • Decorate and finish fresh cream cakes, cake slices, cheesecakes, and other dessert products.
  • Prepare fresh cream and use piping techniques to create neat and attractive finishes.
  • Add fresh fruit, chocolate, sauces, toppings, and other decorations to cakes and desserts.
  • Prepare individual cake and dessert slices for display and sale.
  • Decorate custom cakes and dessert orders according to customer requirements.
  • Take custom orders from customers in-store, discussing designs, sizes, flavours, colours, messages, decorations, and collection dates.
  • Make sure customer orders and special requests are recorded correctly.
  • Communicate clearly with customers and provide helpful advice when choosing designs or dessert options.
  • Write names and messages on cakes and desserts neatly and accurately.
  • Make sure completed orders are ready on time for customer collection.
  • Check orders carefully before they are handed to customers.
  • Maintain the presentation and appearance of products in the display area.
  • Work efficiently when handling multiple orders and daily dessert preparation.
  • Keep work surfaces, equipment, utensils, fridges, and decorating areas clean and tidy.
  • Follow company procedures and local council health, safety, food hygiene, and cleanliness standards.
  • Handle fresh cream, fruit, desserts, and other perishable products safely and correctly.
  • Provide friendly and professional customer service in-store.
  • Communicate customer orders and requirements clearly with other team members.
  • Assist with general shop and dessert counter duties when required.
  • Be flexible to work at either the Eltham or Greenwich store when needed.

Requirements

  • Previous experience decorating fresh cream cakes or desserts is preferred.
  • Experience working with cake slices, cheesecakes, or other desserts is an advantage.
  • Good attention to detail and pride in presentation.
  • Comfortable using piping bags and decorating with fresh cream.
  • Confident speaking with customers and taking custom orders.
  • Previous customer service or retail experience is preferred.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Flexible with working hours.
  • Able to travel between the Eltham and Greenwich stores when required.
  • Able to work at a good pace in a busy environment.
  • Organised and able to meet customer collection times.
  • Understands the importance of cleanliness, food hygiene, and safe working practices.
  • Able to work independently while also being a good team member.

Important

This position does not involve baking. The role is focused on decorating, finishing, preparing, displaying, and serving cakes and desserts, as well as dealing with customers and taking custom orders.

Pay: From £12.71 per hour
